TODAY WE ARE PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THAT SHAPE HISTORY HAS OFFICIALLY BECOME A CERTIFIED B CORP COMPANY. WE ARE THRILLED TO HAVE ACHIEVED A SCORE OF 105.7, FAR BEYOND THE THRESHOLD OF 80 REQUIRED TO ACHIEVE ACCREDITATION. BUT WE WON’T STOP THERE! THIS IS ONLY ONE STOP ON OUR JOURNEY TO BECOMING THE BEST BUSINESS FOR PEOPLE AND PLANET.
From human rights to climate change, the world faces colossal challenges – and it needs everyone in every sector to work together. We believe in the transformative power that business can have in advancing this change, and we join a growing group of companies reinventing business by pursuing purpose as well as profit.
We have been certified by B Lab, the not-for-profit behind the B Corp movement, as having met rigorous social and environmental standards which represent our commitment to goals outside of shareholder profit.
Since B Corp’s birth in 2006, over 150,000 companies have taken the assessment, with only 5,000+ certified B Corporations around the world. The certification addresses the entirety of our operations and covers five key impact areas of Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers. The certification process is rigorous, with applicants required to provide evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency. To complete the certification, we have legally embedded our commitment to purpose beyond profit in our company articles.
Whilst we’re very excited to be joining this community of sustainable businesses, and despite starting this journey almost 2 years ago, we view this as just the first step. Ed & Lauren, our Co-MDs outlined today these ambitions:
“Achieving B Corp status, and with such a strong score, is an acknowledgment of the culture and purpose that every team member contributes to on a daily basis. Our ambition is to use the B Corp Impact Framework to act as a guide to making the agency more sustainably impactful over the next 7 years in the build up to 2030.
Whilst understanding more about the B Corp community, we recognised that we want to set a new standard for continued growth and impact, so have set our team the challenge of improving our score by at least 5% year on year. This is a huge ambition but something we feel is essential to ensuring we don’t rest on our laurels”.
In addition to this, the passion of our team is firing in multiple directions to create change; we’re in the process of setting a strategy to become a climate-positive company, we’re re-examining and evolving our race equity strategy, and we’re building a community of strategists, storytellers and creatives from all around the world to build the Shape History Collective – to bring more lived and diverse experience into our work.
Today we celebrate. But the journey continues…
