The world should be a place where every woman, girl and young person can decide what to do with their body, life and future. SheDecides fights to make this idea a reality for everyone, everywhere. In 2021 the global bodily autonomy movement came to us with big ambitions of revitalising their brand and taking their approach to communications to the next level. Since then we’ve never looked back. Following a successful brand evolution, we’ve provided strategic counsel and practical implementation for the movement’s communications and marketing.
From establishing the first SheDecides Day campaign to launching an SRHR Zine campaign at the UN, we’ve unite public and politicians to take collective action and speak out for bodily autonomy.
The challenge
Bodily autonomy and sexual and reproductive health and rights are under threat. SheDecides, and allied women’s rights organisations, are operating in the face of an increasingly organised opposition, a deprioritisation of funding and a shrinking space for civil society to defend human rights.
SheDecides needed a positioning that was strategic, unifying, and reliable in light of the turbulent political climate of recent years affecting women, girls, and young people. They also wanted to better utilise their esteemed roster of ambassadors and supporters, including world leaders and heads of state to bring greater attention to their cause.
The solution
Over the years, our partnership has successfully evolved the brand, taking the core elements that carry equity with supporters, and giving it a modern twist. We’ve secured strategic press coverage, and targeted media placements to spark political action. And we’ve co-created campaigns with young women and girls to amplify their collective political voices and maximise influence. The creation and launching of their annual awareness day (SheDecides Day) has been a major highlight, whilst the multiple campaigns that have driven action from different political and social actors for bodily autonomy rights continue to challenge us creatively.
Over the last 2 years, we’ve also run their press office, with a strategy to diversify the voices and perspectives that lead international media and policy conversations on bodily autonomy and women’s rights. This involves working with SheDecides global champions to identify opportunities and hooks to secure media.
Emergent strategy reigns supreme in political campaigning. The last 4 years have seen unpredictable regressions in abortion rights, comprehensive sexuality education, and SRHR policy. Yet, by spotlighting often-overlooked victories in the sexual and reproductive health movement, we’ve ignited new champions, secured fresh commitments, and fuelled momentum to keep pushing back against opposition.
